The area: YouTube and Video

The first video posted on YouTube was a 19-second clip called "Me at the Zoo." Today, more than 72 hours of video are uploaded every minute. The YouTube and Video team helps budding filmmakers and musicians build careers, creates products like Google TV and YouTube Live and runs collaborative projects like Life in a Day and the YouTube Space Lab. The role: Product Specialist, YouTube

YouTube's growing user base provides unique challenges and new responsibilities everyday. Fast-paced, dynamic and proactive, the Content and User Operations team serves YouTube's advertisers, publishers and users around the world. Like a diligent detective, your responsibilities are to uncover and understand common issues facing these groups, and then work with the right teams to tackle the problem. Whether surfacing issues to our technical teams or recommending improvements to the team's processes and tools, you enhance the user experience on YouTube while helping increase our loyal user base over time.

As a Product Specialist for RightsFlow, you will support music rights management and copyright research efforts spearheaded by the Licensing and Research team and contribute to new initiatives related to music licensing and monetization. RightsFlow is our system and process that manages music licensing and drives monetization for YouTube music content. RightsFlow also handles mechanical licensing and royalty reporting services on behalf of record labels, digital music distributors, and indie musicians using Limelight, our consumer-facing licensing tool. You will own and manage workflow for licensing and research projects and interact with YouTube partners and music industry organizations to refine existing processes and develop new methods for monetization and rights management. The RightsFlow team works closely with national teams including Google Play, business development, content ops, and partner management. This role requires experience with SQL.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership role within the Research & Licensing team, including oversight of team of researchers.
  • Perform complex data manipulation and analysis using Excel (v-lookup formula, pivot tables, graphs/charts).
  • Write SQL queries, organize and ingest data, and run database procedures in order to retrieve and interpret licensing data.
  • Communicate internally with YouTube partner managers and externally with music publishers and YouTube music partners related to research, clearance and licensing inquiries.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree. In lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant experience.
  • 1 year experience with database systems, MySQL/SQL based; intermediate level of proficiency with SQL query structure.
  • 1 year experience with Microsoft Excel; high proficiency with formulas, charts, pivot tables, and data management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Understanding of music licensing processes and concepts including compulsory mechanical, sync, and performance licensing.
  • Product development experience, knowledge of product development cycle.
  • Excellent internet research skills; experience with AllMusic, ASCAP/BMI/SESAC, HFA eMechanical/Songfile search tools.
  • Interest in multiple music genres; knowledge of music publishers/industry organizations.
