On ka\u017ee da bi eventualne plutaju\u0107e nuklearne elektrane bile sli\u010dne naftnim platformama, tj. bile bi pri\u010dvr\u0161\u0107ene na morski pod.<\/p>\n<p>Nuklearne elektrane u blizini obale nisu svje\u017ea ideja, \u0161to potvr\u0111uju i Rusi koji trenutno izra\u0111uju brod s nuklearnom elektranom. Prednost MIT-ovog dizajna le\u017ei u tome \u0161to bi plutaju\u0107e nuklearne elektrane bile smje\u0161tene izme\u0111u 8 i 11 km od obale. Na tim udaljenostima i pri tim dubinama \u010dak bi i najve\u0107i valovi nestali pod povr\u0161inom oceana.<\/p>\n<p>Jasno je da ovakav dizajn ima bitne prednosti u regijama koje su \u010de\u0161\u0107e izlo\u017eene tsunamijima, kao \u0161to su u\u0161teda prostora na kopnu i smanjen rizik od nuklearnih katastrofa. Velika je prednost tako\u0111er i to \u0161to se ocean mo\u017ee koristiti kao beskona\u010dni hladnjak, a s kopnenim nuklearnim elektranama to nije slu\u010daj.
