Doti\u010dna znanstvena postaja, \u010dija je izgradnja dovr\u0161ena 2010. godine, a ko\u0161tala je impresivnih 279 milijuna dolara, ima za cilj registrirati prolazak neutrina, poprili\u010dno neuhvatljivih subatomskih \u010destica.<\/p>\n<p><em>IceCube<\/em> se sastoji od preko 5000 digitalnih opti\u010dkih senzora ukopanih na dubinu od 1500 do 2000 metara, u 86 rupa izbu\u0161enih u vje\u010dnom ledu, koji imaju zadatak pratiti prolazak neutrina nastalih kao rezultat razli\u010ditih svemirskih pojava, poput supernova, pulsara i crnih rupa. Osim \u0161to je na velikoj dubini, SNOLAB zauzima i impresivan prostor unutar rudnika od \u010dak 5 km<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Iako se ve\u0107ina istra\u017eivanja u SNOLAB-u vrti oko potrage za neutrinima, tamnom tvari i ostalim neuhvatljivim \u010desticama iz dubina svemira, njegovim se kapacitetima mogu koristiti i drugi znanstvenici, poput seizmologa i geofizi\u010dara. Me\u0111utim, ekstremni su pokusi koje BNL provodi, gdje posebice treba izdvojiti postizanje temperature od 4 trilijuna Celzijevih stupnjeva, \u0161to je 250 000 puta ve\u0107a temperatura od one u Sun\u010devoj jezgri. Navedena temperatura stvorena je u RHIC-u, drugom po veli\u010dini sudara\u010du \u010destica u svijetu, odmah iza LHC-a, i to sudaranjem iona zlata ubrzanih gotovo do brzine svjetlosti.<\/p>\n<p>Iako je <em>Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider <\/em>(RHIC) manji u odnosu na CERN-ov <em>Large Hadron Collider<\/em>, doti\u010dni je jedni sudara\u010d na svijetu gdje je mogu\u0107e sudarati polarizirane protone. (FOTO: <em>Interactions.org<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>CERN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Najpoznatiji je istra\u017eiva\u010dki centar za prou\u010davanje elementarnih \u010destica na svijetu, koji u svom sastavu ima i najve\u0107i sudara\u010d \u010destica, impresivni <em>Large Hadron Collider <\/em>(LHC), smje\u0161ten na granici \u0160vicarske i Francuske.<\/p>\n<p>Sam LHC nalazi se u kru\u017enom tunelu du\u017eine 27 kilometara, smje\u0161tenom 175 metara ispod zemlje, a sastavljenom od 9300 magneta hla\u0111enih pomo\u0107u 10 080 tona teku\u0107eg du\u0161ika i helija.
