Ovim otkri\u0107em broj poznatih planeta porastao je za nevjerojatnih 60% i sada iznosi preko 3.200. Upravo je Kepler odgovoran za pronalazak vi\u0161e od 2\/3 planeta, odnosno 2.235 njih.<\/p>\n<p>Gotovo 550 novootkrivenih svjetova vjerojatno je kamenita sastava. Ako uzmemo u obzir kako samo u na\u0161oj galaksiji postoji najmanje 70 milijardi zvijezda glavnog niza, jednostavnim matemati\u010dkim ra\u010dunom mo\u017eemo zaklju\u010diti kako postoje milijarde svjetova na kojima je teku\u0107a voda na povr\u0161ini vrlo vjerojatna. Samim time zna\u010dajno raste i mogu\u0107nost da negdje, na nekom od takvih planeta postoji i \u017eivot.<\/p>\n<p>600 milijuna dolara vrijedni teleskop Kepler nalazi se u svemiru od 2009. godine, sa zadatkom pronalaska planeta sli\u010dnih Zemlji. Koristi se metodom tranzita, koja detektira sjenu planeta dok prolazi ispred zvijezde oko koje kru\u017ei. To je posljedica dana\u0161nje tehnologije teleskopa kojom se ne mo\u017ee &#8211; ili je vrlo te\u0161ko &#8211; detektirati manje planete. Raspodjela mase se ne bi smjela uzeti kao referenca op\u0107enite procjene, jer je vrlo vjerojatno da se u bli\u017eim sustavima nalazi mnogo planeta manje mase koji jo\u0161 nisu otkriveni.<\/p>\n<p>Keplerove zalihe goriva omogu\u0107it \u0107e mu da funkcionira jo\u0161 dvije godine, nakon \u010dega \u0107e njegova misija zavr\u0161iti.
